. . . I feel so fortunate that I was able to help so many show their love through pieces of jewelry this year. I had so many beautifully considerate commissions for friends, parents, and of course lovers, that I couldn't help but . . .
After some seriously fun diamond shopping (I love my job!) and pictures and videos sent via email to my lovely cross country clients we decided on a diamond. She already had her heart set on a design so, the next step was building her setting.
I had a client approach me who lost her wedding ring soon after the wedding. It just disappeared. She's very responsible and hasn't ever lost anything like this before, so it seemed strange to everyone that she seemed to have misplaced it. She tore apart her house a couple of times, checked behind all the drawers and after much waiting and looking finally understood that maybe that specific ring was not meant to be. It's been about 4 years and she's ready to move on to a new ring. I was so thrilled to begin work on this new beautiful representation of their marriage. . .
My visits to Texas have always been so wonderful, and I left feeling awe inspired each time. The people of the Lone Start State are so kind and genuine, that I couldn't be happier to announce that Monica Marcella adornments are now available in Dallas, Texas at Szor Collections!
Violet majesty! Amethyst is one of the most celebrated gems throughout history. It has been said to have strong healing properties, to keep the wearer quick witted, and has long been considered the color of royalty.
I have lived in a few cities and my jewelry is shown in a variety of places, but we all know nothing feels as sweet as a little hometown love. For me home is the city of angels.. I am very happy to announce that my first Los Angeles gallery (third in California) is now carrying Monica Marcella jewelry -- just in time for the holidays!
...not all gems are built like a diamond, and so they should not always be cut like one. And if you think so too, you're not alone. History agrees. Take a look at the rings of royalty throughout history, and you'll see masterfully polished, rounded colored gems. Saturated sapphires and aquamarines set in magnificent golden adornments were the norm for millennia. The mineral structures of a beryl (emerald, aquamarine, morganite) are completely different from those of a corundum (sapphire and ruby). Because of that, light will behave differently once it enters the gem. The cutter should take this into account. What has happened over time is that cuts from the diamond chart have been applied to the crystal structures of other gems and it almost seems like putting antlers on a bear.
It is one of the great privileges of my work to be able to hand craft wedding bands for my clients. I learned a phrase from my husband -- to kvell, and it is totally what I feel when seeing the the custom wedding bands I made so wonderfully photographed on the day of the nuptials. And I beam with pride when I see these symbols of enduring commitment exchanged between lovers
Susan invited my husband and I to stay at her wonderful beach cottage in Connecticut for a weekend. So my husband and I packed our bathing suits, picked up a few steaks, and headed up the coast. What we found there was pure inspiration. Breakfast in the gazebo looking out onto Duck Island will be a cherished memory.
Metal and Smith was an amazing event! A curated group of 50 jewelry artists getting to talk shop with writers, buyers, and stylists from around the country. It was really fantastic and I feel a great deal of gratitude for being an exhibitor this year. Here are some photos from the event!
You cannot go wrong with a tourmaline. While at a rock and mineral show when I was a kid an old toothless overall-clad rock hound told me that the Egyptians believed that tourmaline came from
Each day I have the great privilege of crafting pieces from design through to final finish. Making jewelry is a personal meditation . . .
My wedding was the best day of my life. The photos are so rich with emotional information and there isn't a stranger in any picture. My husband and I both admit that we could've gotten married any which way and it would've been a seminal moment. But to have had a day to surround ourselves with the most meaningful people we each know, was a gift to ourselves that we cherish every time we open the albums to think back.
I am so excited to share my new logo with all of you! I worked with a wonderfully talented LA based graphic designer, Rocio Alvarado to make this happen. We went through some brainstorming and design sessions together and incorporated my tear shape and used clean linear initials. This really encapsulates my brand and in the end, I am thrilled with the result and
I wear a a very special pink sapphire almost everyday. My wonderful grad school professor gave me the stone as a graduation gift and told me to make whatever I wanted with it. Naturally, I made a pink pinky ring and think of her every time I see it. The durability of sapphires make it a great choice for everyday wear or an engagement ring.
I wanted to share a heartfelt message of thanks to all of you! The holiday season is such a special time to connect with family and friends, I'm wishing all of you nothing but warm hugs and hot cocoa! This holiday season I have been busy readying gifts for my family and making new beauties for my retailers.
